Video – Password protect Mac files

A friend of mine asked me how to make his files really, really secure. I wasn’t sure so I scoured the internet to find an answer and it seemed that a bunch of people had the same question. Well I was able to figure it out and then decided that maybe other people could benefit from the knowledge, so I made a tutorial which explains how, so anyone with a Mac can password protect their files. Materials Required: An Apple computer, sensitive information Time Required: 2-5 minutes Level of Difficulty: 2 (easy)

why don’t you just go to “get info” and choose write only drop box and then click the lock button?

It didn’t allow me to create image. This is the dialogue I’m getting: “Unable to create ‘test.’ (user interaction required for authorization)
Then there is only an “OK” button- no explanation or option at all. How do I do the “user interaction” so that it gives me autorization? (I’m doing this from my administrator account in Snow Leopard).

Mac Hider is a nice alternative but it does cost money. Nice GUI interface though
@avocadomilk I’m not in front of my computer right now, so I can’t say for sure, but when you unpack the .dmg, I’m pretty sure you can hit cmd+i and set the permissions to read and write. That way you can copy files to and from the disk, and when you eject it, the password protected .dmg should update. I’ll check for sure when I get a minute tonight.
this was ok, but it would be nice to be able to modify the folder contents on the fly without having to create a disk image everytime.

@jblackbath si usted crea una imagen del disco según lo descrito en esta clase particular, usted podrá suprimir la imagen del disco sin incorporar una contraseña. Si usted quiere proteger un archivo contra la supresión, usted tendrá que entrar el buscador Info y trabar el archivo. Perfect job Dave. Thanks for the info. I had never thought about making a disk image from Disk Utility. Very nice video, simple to follow instructions. Oh and good choice with the Patriots haha. I would have chosen Bruins but I’m a hockey guy, what can I say? Very good though.

he bildete ich 1 verriegeltes Faltblatt von 8gb und wünsche zur tranfer Akte in ihr dieses IS-IS von 4.22gb, aber nicht imstande, seine Sprechenscheibe ist zu bringen voll, aber in meinem hardisk noch ist 40 GB. vorhanden.
