Remove Mac Keychain Password Prompts

Summary
This document details shows how to remove the Keychain password Prompt

Steps
1. Open Keychain Access
5. Delete Keychain “username”
6. Delete References & Files
7. Quit Keychain

1-4. Open Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities*

With Utilities folder open, select and open Keychain Access.

5. Delete Keychain “system”*

Go to the File menu and select Delete Keychain “system.” The “system” will most likely be your own username listing your first initial and last name.

6. Select “Delete References & Files”*

This window will pop up right after you complete step 5.

7. Quit Keychain*

Once you have completed steps 1-6 you can quit Keychain and no longer be bugged by Keychain password prompts.

  1. I’ve tried the following the instructions for “Remove Mac Keychain Password Prompts” without success.
    At step 5, the menu item ‘Delete Keychain “System Roots”‘ is grey. There is no menu item ‘Delete Keychain “System.”‘
    I have lost the keychain password. What do I do now. I really want to get rid of this thing.
