Password Protect on Waking From Mac Sleep Mode

MAC Tips, by Albel.
Even if you have confidence in your IT environment enough, it is your job to secure it to your Mac from prying eyes and secure your data. An effective way to do this is to require that the password is entered for access to your computer after it wakes from sleep. Password protection is easy to install and a must for anyone concerned about the integrity of his computer.

  1. In an open Finder window, Select the Apple menu in the upper left-hand corner of the menu bar. Cursor down and select “System Preferences” from the menu. Release the mouse/trackpad button to launch System Preferences.
  2. In System Preferences, select and single-click “Security” to go to the Security preference pane.
  3. In the Security preference pane, click on the “General” tab to go to the General preferences window. Click the check box labeled “Require Password to Wake this Computer from Sleep or Screen Saver.”
  4. The next time you wake your computer from sleep mode, you will be prompted to enter your username and password to access your Mac.
