How to Make Your Mac Run Faster

Everyone wants a faster computer and that includes those of us who have Macs. There are a few things that cost little and do not or can really make a difference in how fast your Mac is running. The best way to make your Mac run faster is to add RAM or Random Access Memory. You need a minimum of 2 gigabytes of RAM, a Mac operating system to run and you really need a minimum of 3 gigs to run smooth. Adding RAM to your Mac to deliver instant results and all your programs run faster.

If you want to know how to make your Mac faster while remind you just start the applications you need. The more applications running concurrently, consumed more RAM and system resources. A good rule is that you do not use before finishing applications. See a distinct difference in the speed of your Mac, if to follow this advice. The next step is to remove programs from the Mac login items that are not needed at startup. Navigate to Log in Items and see what is on the startup list. If you see unnecessary start up programs listed click on the item and then click the minus button that is located below the list. Dashboard Widgets that are unnecessary should be removed since they consume critical processor and memory resources even when you are not using them. Widgets that update information through the Internet use a lot of RAM and resources since they are performing updates constantly, even when you do not have the Dashboard activated.

If you want to know how to make faster your Mac through the release of hard disk space, just to try it. Try programs and documents you no longer need and if your Mac runs faster than it did. Ideally, you should always as at least one third of the drive freely, so that your computer optimally. This is on a Mac with a part of the disk as a virtual memory or swap partition space. This is especially important when looking at large media files. You should run a backup copy large files to a FireWire or an external hard drive so that your Mac is faster.

Another tip to speed up your Mac is to check and fix your Mac’s internal hard disk preferences at least one time per month. Launch Apple Disk Utilities and select your internal hard drive and then click on Repair Permissions. The repair will take between ten and twenty minutes depending on the size of the drive.

These tips on how to make your Mac faster don’t cost anything with the exception of adding more RAM. If you perform all of these steps you may be surprised how fast your Mac will run. You will always get better performance from your Mac if you only open the applications that you really need open at one time. This tip alone will speed your Mac up tremendously. Adding RAM is not very expensive and is a good thing to do if your computer is still running slow after trying the other tips on how to make your Mac run faster.
