iPhone Overtakes iPod As Sales Leader When The Music’s Over
iPhone, iPod, by Albel.Asymco, who split their attention divided between the creation of mobile applications and analysis of the app industry has recently a view on the iPod vs iPhone quantities shipped. As you can see, create an almost perfect sawtooth wave pattern with large spikes in the 4 iPod sales. Quarter of each year (i.e. the holiday shopping season) before leveling the rest of the year. But the iPhone have grown steadily since its inception, and finally the iPod figures proposed in the second quarter 2010 (admittedly at one of the above plateau periods).

Asymco conclude “The iPod has been quite resilient as a product line but with both the iPhone and iPad embedding an iPod, cannibalization is happening.”
Apple has of course regularly updated and improved the entire iPod line: nanos, for example, camera / video capabilities have has and now touch screen devices that the iTouch is positioned as a device for those who liked everything about the iPhone unless you, the phone part know (and between Wi-Fi VoIP applications and external hacks, telephony could be had as needed). And for those the only music, Ma’, that continues to the 160 GB iPod classic to your storage giant be.
But as the iPhone continues to add storage space and lower its price, it’ll be interesting to see how much of the iPod line goes the way of the carrier pigeon…
