When starting your MAC OS, you will have to authenticate to access account. You may also log out of your computer without restarting. From the Apple menu, select Log out... .
Locking your screen
Mac OS X also allows you to lock your screen when the screensaver is active. You must then enter your password to regain access to your computer. To enable this feature:
- From the Apple menu, select
System Preferences.... - From the
Viewmenu, selectSecurity. - In 10.6, check
Require password... after sleep or screen saver begins, and choose how long the computer can be asleep or the screen saver on before a password is required.In 10.5 or 10.4, checkRequire password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver.
To add an item to your menu bar that you can quickly lock to activate the screen and the screen saver:
- From your
Applicationsfolder, open yourUtilitiesfolder, and then openKeychain Access. - From the
Keychain Accessmenu, selectPreferences.... Under theGeneraltab, checkShow Status in Menu Bar. - The padlock icon will appear in your menu bar in the upper right corner of your screen. To lock your screen, click this icon, and from the menu that appears, select
Lock Screen.
