Forget your password for your FileVault-protected account
Recover MAC Password, by Albel.
If you forget your login password, and your home folder is protected by FileVault, you must use the master password to access your account and reset the account password. If you don’t know the master password, ask your computer’s administrator to help you.
If the computer’s administrator doesn’t know the master password, and the user of the FileVault-protected account has forgotten the login password, the home folder and its contents are lost.
To reset the password for a FileVault-encrypted home folder:
- Try to log in to your user account. When you see the password hint appear after the third unsuccessful try, click “Forgot Password.”
- Enter (or have the computer’s administrator enter) the master password, and click Continue.
- Read the warning message about your keychain and click OK to proceed.
- Enter a new login password for your account, and then enter it again to verify it.
- Enter a hint to help you remember your password.
- Click Login.
