Apple iPhone glitch: Alarm setting does not update for clocks going back

iPhone, by Albel.

Owners of Apple’s iPhone were given an extra hour in bed this morning after a glitch in the gadget failed to set the alarm clock off on time.

Apple suffered the latest in a series of problems with its iPhone after the alarm failed to readjust to allow for the clocks going back over the weekend.

As a result, owners’ smartphone alarms went off an hour later than they should have this morning.

Twitter was quickly inundated with thousands of messages from people complaining about the gaffe.

The glitch is just the latest problem to hit Apple after the company came under fire over reception problems with the release of the iPhone 4 in the summer .

Last week, another glitch was revealed where people could access the iPhone without knowing the security keycode.

Today’s error, contained within the iPhone’s recurrent alarm feature, meant
the alarm setting remained the same as it was before the clocks were
changed at the weekend.

Users of Twitter were also quick to make jokes at Apple’s expense today.

Garrettc wrote: ‘Daddy, do you remember where you were during the great iPhone alarm calamity of 2010?’ ‘No son, I was asleep’

Siobhan-83 wrote: ‘Ben’s iPhone alarm didn’t go off this morning, used it as an opportunity to tell him younger, newer models aren’t always the better option.’

And Jamiei said: ‘A whole hour of peace and quiet in the office this morning without any iPhone users courtesy of Apple.’

However James Oakley from London did not see the funny side. The 26-year-old office worker said: ‘I can’t believe Apple can’t even get something as basic as an alarm clock right.

‘I woke up late and my boss was not happy when I got in, and I’m sure the same thing happened to thousands of people.

‘As an Apple owner we’ve suffered a lot recently and it’s starting to make people think the brand isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.’

Technology expert for gadget website CNET Rich Trenholm said: ‘Apple has been having a lot of problems recently and this is just the latest in a line of gaffes.

‘Mobile phones have had alarm clocks for years so when a smart phone can’t even handle that it is a major embarrassment.

‘Particularly as Apple markets its products as a premium brand, they certainly have egg on their faces.

‘Making sure you wake up at the right time is very important to people and a quick search online shows how angry they are.

‘The issue was first reported in Australia a couple of weeks back when their clocks changed but Apple have failed to do anything about it since.

‘I think some of the gloss has been taken off the brand and they will have to work hard to win back some of their credibility.’  He advised people can get round the problem by deleting the saved alarm and creating a new one.

A spokesman for Apple was unavailable to comment.
